Such great heights at Aspen Heights - Yalla Abu Dhabi feature - Aspen Heights British School
The choice of a school can be an exhausting one for parents of children with additional needs. Yalla learns about the Oasis Class at Aspen Heights British School, Al Bahya from Principal Emma Shanahan, and about the difference it’s making in the community.

Aspen Heights is passionately committed to providing a bespoke, personalised learning programme so that every child makes amazing progress. The school provides a unique offering to parents of children with additional needs – our Oasis Class, which caters for a small group of children, aged 3-7.

WHAT SETS ASPEN HEIGHT’S OASIS CLASS APART?

Our Oasis provision for children with learning needs we believe is unique in Abu Dhabi. Our Oasis Class children are taught in a small setting by a skilled inclusion teacher, together with speech and occupation therapists. Face-to-face communication between the inclusion teacher and therapists enables the very best provision for each child, personalised to meet their individual needs.

HOW DID THE OASIS CLASS COME TO BE?

Having been in educational leadership roles in Abu Dhabi since 2008, I have seen many families with children whose needs could not be met in a mainstream setting. At Aspen, we saw the opportunity to provide a space where all children can thrive.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR TEACHERS.

We expect all of our teachers to be positive, approachable, observant, patient, calm, and hardworking; these qualities are particularly important when teaching children with –specific additional needs.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FACILITIES.

Enabling our Oasis class children to be taught in a mainstream setting where appropriate, for some of their time in school, facilitates the inclusive environment that we want for all our children at Aspen. Everyone benefits from inclusivity with the right support and appropriate accommodations.
