Campus & Facilities designed for Learning | Aspen Heights British School

Campus & Facilities

Aspen Heights British School is privileged to have a wealth of world-class facilities. Our spacious campus has been built keeping nature in mind.

An Appreciation of Nature

Aspen Heights British School in Abu Dhabi believes that providing children with an eco-friendly environment will instil a sense of responsibility towards the world.

We offer unique environmental initiatives, including:

  • A hydroponics greenhouse: where students cultivate vegetables, herbs and fruit and are encouraged to develop healthy eating habits.
  • A sensory room: a soft play area where early years students can play safely while practicing their physical and motor skills
  • Caring for animals: enquiry-based learning projects enable students to research, evaluate and provide for the needs and requirements of a variety of animals including our school tortoises, fish and chickens.

Students will gain an understanding that much of what has been grown can be eaten and enjoyed. Such unique, hands-on learning experiences enhance and embed classroom learning. The learning environment at Aspen Heights celebrates our best use of natural resources and how we might grow and develop a sustainable life to enrich our local communities.

We also have animals such as fish and chickens, which provide children with further hands-on opportunities to interact with their environment.

Sports Facilities

Aspen Heights British School believes that physical activity plays a critical role in a student’s development and well-being.

In addition to a large multi-purpose hall/ gymnasium, Aspen Heights students enjoy access to an outdoor sports court and astro pitch, an indoor 25m swimming pool, a dance studio, and age-appropriate shaded outdoor playgrounds and gardens.

Dedicated Music and Art & Craft Rooms

Aspen Heights British School believes that art and music allows students to express themselves in a way that enriches their learning by harnessing creativity, which complements academic achievements.

Our well-equipped art and music facilities encourage young artists and musicians of all abilities and across all age groups to get involved and build their self-confidence, imagination and creative skills.

Our specialist music teachers ensure all children have the opportunity to learn the instrument of their choice.

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Google for Education

ICT will be widely used to enhance learning and teaching across the curriculum.

We are constantly investing in new technology to enhance our teaching and learning. There are Chromebooks and tablets available in every classroom in order to enhance learning across all curriculum areas. All primary classrooms have interactive smart boards.

Throughout the whole school, children will be exposed to a wide range of learning apps using iPads and tablet technology, augmented reality (AR), and control technology.

To meet the future’s biggest challenges, students need an adaptive set of skills. The Google for Education initiative creates programs to ensure digital readiness in both students and teachers and directing Google tools and funding toward expanding computer science education. We are one of the few Google for Education schools in Abu Dhabi.

Science Laboratories

Aspen Heights British School has science labs and dedicated Art, Design and Technology rooms.

Library

The Aspen Heights British School library houses vast resources for students, staff and parents to develop their knowledge and understanding of different subjects, and provides support to classroom studies in both English and Arabic.

Canteen

We actively promote healthy eating at school as we know that when children eat nutritionally rich food, they have more energy and will approach their studies with more enthusiasm. In the Foundation stage and Primary years we ask families to provide a healthy packed lunch for children to eat at morning snack, and at lunchtime. We suggest: cut up fruit and / or vegetable sticks, a protein rich sandwich or wrap (cheese, egg, fish or meat or rice or pasta, yoghurt or milk).

Examples of unsuitable packed lunch additions would be: cold chicken nuggets, chips, burgers, crisps, and chocolate. We also ask that no nuts are brought into school as we have a number of children with nut allergies.

We have sourced the services of a reputable supplier who are also able to supply packed lunches for your children and deliver them to their classrooms. Key Stage 2 children will have access to the canteen to eat their pre-ordered lunch or their lunch from home.

Health Services

Aspen Heights has a Health Clinic led by a full time qualified School Nurse to ensure the health and safety of all of our pupils in school is met. This is in conjunction with the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD) regulations.

The in-school clinic is equipped to deal with all minor and initial emergency concerns that may occur in school. The clinic and nurse are fully compliant with all HAAD requirements and use evidence based health care practices. The clinic is both officially licensed by HAAD and regularly inspected by both ADEK and HAAD.

All cases of injury or illness receive medical attention and are reported to the parent/guardian.

Uniform Shop

School uniform items are available for purchase on-site at Aspen Heights, enabling purchases to be made quickly and simply. In addition, an online ‘click and collect’ service will be available soon.
