Dubai Expo 2020
A once in a lifetime event for our students!
As a student in the UAE during 2020, they will be part of a once in a lifetime event, with a range of educational experiences associated with the Expo 2020 available. At Aspen Heights, wherever possible we already incorporate sustainability themes into our everyday classwork, and now with Expo 2020 highlighting this again to the world, it will be even more relevant than ever. The school principal and several other staff have already been appointed as official Expo 2020 volunteers and will further promote learning based on Expo 2020 across the school.
About Expo 2020
Dubai Expo 2020 will bring together nations and international organisations on one platform to share knowledge and to showcase technology that will promote collaboration in global education, creative innovation and social progress. Dubai Expo will take place from 20th October 2020 to 10th April 2021 at a specially constructed 438-hectare site near Al Maktoum International Airport in the Dubai South District.
Expo 2020 Themes – Sustainability
Dubai Expo is built on the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, promoting cooperation among people from different fields and backgrounds to foster innovation and progress. This is underpinned by the sub-themes: Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability, all of which offer a platform for education and knowledge development. Our school will be focusing on the Sustainability theme, launching with our hydroponics greenhouse enterprise led by our secondary students. Children across the school will explore issues around sustainability during our ‘Sustainability for our future’ themes week early in January 2020. Recycling, gardening, care for animals and minimising waste are embedded themes in our school curriculum.
Expo 2020 Curriculum and Projects
Dubai Expo offers outstanding learning opportunities for students as part of the Expo School Programme in a range of fields. Our secondary students will visit the Expo to explore all the pavilions during 2020 and bring their learning back to school to incorporate themes that they have learned. We are also launching a peer teaching programme, whereby secondary students will coach and support younger students in themes around sustainability and the environment. We are very excited to see how Expo 2020 inspires our children to imagine other not-yet-thought-of possibilities!
Below are some themes and topics that we will explore in the class as part of this exciting event.
