Admissions Policy
This admissions policy has been written to ensure that the Aspen Heights British School is following fair and appropriate procedures in the selection of students. It sets out the requirements for admissions in line with ADEK’s Private Schools Policy and Guidance Manual, where Policies 44 and 45 relate to student admissions, registration, and placement, and Federal Law No. (29) of 2006 on the Rights of Persons with Special Needs.
Re-admissions
Students are eligible for re-registration for the next academic year, unless there are significant behavioural issues. Fees must be up to date to enable re-registration.
Siblings
Siblings of current students are given priority if the year group is at capacity.
Staff Children
Staff children are guaranteed a school place, subject to the terms of our admissions policy, but must still complete an enrolment form and supply requested documentation.
Waiting Lists
Where a year group is at capacity, a child may be placed on the waiting list. The parent will be contacted if and when a place becomes available. If a place is offered it must be accepted or declined within one week.
Applications For Next Academic Year
These can be made at any time, and admissions assessments will begin in November. The admissions team will endeavour to respond to your application within 48 working hours.
Medical Records
Aspen Heights British School requires current and accurate information regarding your child’s medical requirements, and that you update the School should the circumstances change. We require records of previous medical treatments, allergies, and vaccination records on registration.
Placement of Students After Enrolment
Aspen Heights British School places students in the correct year group in accordance with their age on 1st September if starting school for the first time or in accordance with their year/grade progression as per ADEK policy. To maintain equality and diversity in our classes, and to allow students to better support each other’s academic and social development, we place children in class by considering nationality, language ability, gender, and additional learning needs.
Gender
Aspen Heights British School is a co-educational school from FS1 to Year 13. The school aspires to maintain a 50:50 boy:girl ratio.
Nationality
Aspen Heights British School operates a fair and non-discriminatory approach to selection of students, to enable a diverse and rich cultural experience for all children and members of the school community.
English Language
Aspen Heights British School delivers the National Curriculum for England to students in English. Language proficiency in early years is not used as an indication for admissions. In primary and secondary, language proficiency is assessed to ensure students can access the curriculum, in order to progress to the best of their ability in our school.
Additional Learning Requirements
Aspen Heights British School is an inclusive school for gifted students and those with special educational needs. We offer additional learning support where we can help the child to progress. Parents should inform the school at application stage regarding any additional learning support requirements for their child. We may request copies of external documents such as professional assessments, individual learning plans, and one to one learning requirements. Please be advised that extra learning support may incur additional costs to the parents.
Twin Siblings
Aspen Heights British School celebrates and respects the individuality of each child. We will always call our multiple birth children by their individual names and take care in assessing them individually. Where possible, siblings will be placed in different classes.
Behaviour
Aspen Heights British School believes that good student behaviour is fundamental in enabling the best learning experience possible, and all students enrolled at the school should have a positive attitude to learning and respect for the school community. Registration and re-registration is offered subject to this.
Class Capacity
Class sizes will not exceed 25 students in early years or the rest of the school unless in exceptional circumstances.
Admissions Deadlines
Admissions for the 2024/2025 academic year are currently open and we are accepting applications. This Policy covers the period from September 2024 to September 2025 and is reviewed on an annual basis by the School Principal and the Head of Admissions. It will be updated should new policies be issued by ADEK.
