Aspen Heights British School Abu Dhabi, a leading British Curriculum school, is proud to announce our success at the Mentl Awards 2024, winning in the category of Outstanding Mental Health Initiative in Education. The award was presented at a prestigious gala dinner on 22 November 2024, where world-renowned therapist and bestselling author Marisa Peer delivered the keynote speech.
The Award-Winning Mental Health Ambassadors Programme
The Mental Health Ambassadors Programme, led by school counsellor Redah Khan, played a key role in winning this award. She shared her excitement about the programme’s success:
“I’m thrilled that our Mental Health Ambassadors Programme has been recognised as an Outstanding Initiative in Education. We identified key challenges within our school and developed a structured peer-support system, starting with four dedicated students. Their passion and leadership have already made a significant impact, and I’m excited to see this initiative grow as we train 21 more Mental Health Ambassadors in the wake of this award.”
Our first cohort of Mental Health Ambassadors – Yasmine, Ibraheem, Aldo and Fatima – reflected on their experiences. Yasmine shared, “Being an ambassador has taught me the importance of listening and understanding others.” Ibraheem added, “This programme gave me the tools to support my friends and peers.” Aldo described his experience as “life-changing,” explaining, “Helping others is truly rewarding.” Fatima reflected on her growth, saying, “I’ve grown so much and feel proud to be part of something so meaningful.” Each of them found deep value in their role, showing how impactful this programme has been in fostering empathy, support, and personal growth.

Recognising Excellence in Student Well-being
Now in their second year, the Mentl Awards celebrate impactful initiatives that amplify unheard voices, foster resilience, and promote mental health awareness in schools and workplaces. These awards recognise individuals and organisations dedicated to supporting mental well-being in their communities.
This year’s panel of mental health experts and industry professionals selected Aspen Heights British School for its data-driven approach and commitment to student well-being. Scott Armstrong, founder of Mentl, praised the school’s submission:
“What truly stood out was not just the heart and passion behind the initiative, but also the compelling evidence that showcased real and measurable impact. Aspen Heights demonstrated the perfect balance of empathy and effectiveness, which is exactly what we look for in this category.”
